MBMA Safety Award Received

Accountant Richard Millan

SBC Building Systems was recently recognized with an industry Safety Award from the Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA). Each year MBMA recognizes metal building systems manufacturers who show exceptional commitment to assuring workplace safety. 2013 Safety Awards were presented at the MBMA Spring Dinner Meeting held May 6, 2014 in Dallas, TX. A total of 47 plant facilities participated in MBMA’s Quarterly OSHA Injury Statistics Program.

MBMA and its members are committed to the safety of everyone who works in the metal building systems industry. The organization has had a long-standing Safety Committee and Awards Program, which was revamped in 2010 so that it is patterned after OSHA safety rules.

“This award is another reinforcement of our central reliability theme for our customers. Safety is in every aspect of our performance,” added SBC Building Systems General Manager Pat Kern.

A Conversation with General Manager Pat Kern

Pat Kern has worked in the pre-engineered building industry for nearly four decades. Here, he shares his insights about changes in the industry.

“This industry was at its high point in 2007-08. Since that time, the industry has struggled with the down turn and to date, the industry is still 30% off from the production/sales numbers that were once achieved.

In retrospect, the last major paradigm shift was the introduction of the SSR roof and that happened 40 years ago! That’s a long time with nothing new to sell!

One of the most important lessons that we learned during this period is that every manufacturer that survived learned to be more service oriented.

It is so important for the industry to understand that exceptional customer service is central to growth. In addition, that customer focus should be on the contractor as they control 80% of the market.

I am proud to report that SBC Building Systems is only one of 3 companies in 2013 that achieved the same volume levels that we produced in 2007-08. Yet, that doesn’t prove a thing. Our past results do not insure future performance.

Therefore, we strive to keep doing things better—from the initial quote request and client conversation to delivery and installation of the final building. We are committed to continuing our process improvements. Reliability is our top priority when servicing our contractor distribution channel.

In addition, our ability to service international clients is one aspect that sets us apart in the industry. No other pre-engineered manufacturing company completes international projects as well as we do.”
